Casa Stradivari, once the home and workshop of the renowned luthier Antonio Stradivari, has been brought back to life through the commitment of the Fondazione Casa Stradivari.
Inspired by the journey of the 300-year-old violin The Angel, crafted by Stradivari in 1720, and by the life of the Master himself, the Foundation has restored the house, which now serves as a centre for the preservation and transmission of the traditional Cremonese art of violin making, recognised as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2012.
The creative dialogue that Antonio Stradivari once cultivated with passion continues to inspire the renewed life of Casa Stradivari: alongside the lutherie activities on the ground floor, the first floor is dedicated to young musicians, while the second floor hosts an international artist in residence.
Casa Stradivari is a place of memory, but also a creative space for artistic exchange and cross-fertilisation - a treasure chest in which to preserve and pass on intangible knowledge.
A place for dialogue on art and its voice: music.
How our story begins
It is thanks to the vision of violinist Fabrizio von Arx and the journey he organized to celebrate the tricentennial of the violin he currently plays, the Stradivari “The Angel” - ex Madrileno 1720, that the Nuptial House, where the great luthier lived and opened his first workshop, has reopened and rediscovered its artistic vocation.
In 2020, to mark the three centuries of life of this extraordinary violin from the Golden Period, von Arx embarked on a journey from Geneva to Cremona, divided into seven stages. These stages became opportunities for encounters and celebrations of music alongside musicians and artists of all kinds.
His arrival at the Nuptial House at 57 Corso Garibaldi inspired the creation of a unique artistic project unlike any other in the world.
Following a major restoration, on July 4, 2023, exactly 356 years after hosting Antonio Stradivari and Francesca Ferraboschi, the house reopened to the public. Its spaces are now dedicated to the transmission of musical and lutherie knowledge, continuing the legacy initiated by Stradivari himself.
