Artistic residency

second floor

The second floor is the headquarter of the Artistic Residency: international artists will be guests in Stradivari's house to engage in artistic creation and teaching, in synergy with the musicians of the first floor and with the violinmakers of the masterclass on the ground floor.

Young musicians will therefore have the opportunity to improve and compare themselves with the most talented performers on the international scene; violinmakers, on the other hand, will be able to get an important feedback on the instruments made or in the process of being made.

The three floors thus find full realization: the human contact between artists of different genres will make Casa Stradivari a place of creative fervor, exactly as it was in the era of Antonio Stradivari.

Maxim Vengerov, one of the greatest violin virtuosos, and among the most loved and requested in the world, will be the next guest of the project "Artistic Residency" of Fondazione Casa Stradivari in Cremona.

The great musician, who plays the Stradivari "Kreutzer 1727", will be the protagonist of a double appointment that will enrich the cultural and formative programming of Casa Stradivari.

Monday May 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Maestro Vengerov will hold a Masterclass of violin at the Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi in Cremona, addressed to 3 young violinists aged between 14 and 25 years. To participate, candidates must send, together with their curriculum vitae, a video of a performance lasting up to 10 minutes, of suitable quality that allows adequate evaluation of their technical, instrumental and interpretative preparation. Applications must be sent by e-mail to by April 20. All applications will be considered and examined by Fondazione Casa Stradivari.

The masterclass will also be open to the public, subject to availability (reservation required by sending an e-mail to ).

The second appointment of Maxim Vengerov in Cremona will be a round table discussion focused on the relationship between violinist, instrument and sound scheduled on May 6 at the Auditorium G. Arvedi of the Violin Museum, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is the first confrontation organized by Fondazione Casa Stradivari. The famous violinist will tackle the theme "The resonances of Stradivarius" together with authoritative personalities from the world of music and violin making in an open and interactive debate.

The initiative is part of the project of the Casa Stradivari Artistic Residences, which provides for in-depth study and fundamental exchanges of view between violinmakers and musicians, in synergy with the Plan to Safeguard the know-how of Cremona’s violinmaking.
