Trio Debussy

More often than not, human and professional circumstances lead chamber ensembles to disband within a few seasons. This rule does not apply to Trio Debussy; with thirty-six years of activity, it stands as the longest-running Italian trio and one of the very few "full-time" ensembles on the international chamber music scene. Critics have defined them as a group of musicians who possess "in their hearts, minds, and hands an interpretative greatness of a bygone era." Indeed, the three members have placed their talents at the service of the ensemble with total dedication, continuously seeking new interactions and expanding an already vast repertoire: over 230 works, from Haydn to contemporary composers, 30 of which were written specifically for the Trio and performed as world premieres, not to mention numerous collaborations in expanded formations.

After winning the International Chamber Music Competition "Premio Trio di Trieste" (1997), the ensemble embarked on an intense career that has taken them to the most prestigious Italian and international concert institutions: Unione Musicale in Turin, Amici della Musica in Florence, Società del Quartetto in Milan, MITO SettembreMusica, Amici della Musica in Palermo, Società del Quartetto in Vicenza, the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna (performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto), Sala Santa Cecilia at the new Auditorium in Rome (performing G.F. Ghedini's Triple Concerto with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Tate), the Coliseum in Buenos Aires, Associazione Scarlatti in Naples, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Sociedad Filarmónica in Valencia, concerts at the Quirinale broadcast live on the radio, and many others.

A twenty-year collaboration with the Unione Musicale has given life to numerous projects: among these, Atelier Giovani, which featured the complete performance of the chamber works of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms, and a journey of exploration into French chamber music between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with the rediscovery of seldom-performed pages. But Trio Debussy has never been satisfied with interpreting only the traditional repertoire: they have always sought new challenges, juxtaposing great masterpieces with the unknown, the rare, and the contemporary, in a constant dialogue between memory and innovation. In 2005, they founded the Festival "Tra Futuro & Passato," which proposed original pairings of classics and new creations, testing both the audience and themselves in a process of continuous artistic renewal.

There have also been numerous collaborations with musical entities of various backgrounds: Lili, a composition project using Artificial Intelligence under the supervision of Andrea Chenna; the experience with the Manomanouche (culminating in a CD recording in 2009); and work with Paolo Conte, which—thanks to the arrangements of Massimo Pitzianti—led to new elaborations of instrumental pieces by the famous singer-songwriter from Asti, written specifically for the Trio. Their latest CD, recently published, brings together two absolute cornerstones of the chamber repertoire: Schubert's Trio Op. 100 (in its integral edition) and Ravel's Trio.
